The selected candidate will be responsible for tasks associated with the detailed engineering design of high voltage (Transmission 69 - 500 kV) power line projects.  These projects are to include entire new facilities, as well as major additions, rehabilitation, replacement, clearance, and reconductoring of existing electric power lines.  The position will also require occasional field site visits for data collection and verification. 


  • Performs tasks, and produces engineering calculations, documents, drawings, and designs for conceptual and detailed phases of engineering as the project lead or responsible engineer.

  • As required, may produce documents and drawings to support client requirements to support efforts in permitting or otherwise supporting construction and constructability requirements.

  • Reviews Vendor drawings, calculations, and specifications for design and project compliance.

  • Coordinates with engineering team to determine the format and creation of project deliverables, documents, and drawings.

  • Coordinates with or directs others to produce supporting drawing and drafting requirements.

  • Communicates with stake holders both internally and externally to resolve and address project interfaces.

  • Applies and incorporates industry best practices, client standards and client direction into design documents and drawings(s) as the Lead Responsible Engineer.

  • Documents client interactions and changes to the project scope, schedule, or budget, as required

  • Periodically conducts field visits to collect data (5-10% travel).

  • Works with client and/or construction contractors to develop best design.

  • Proofs in-house engineering projects. – Attention to detail required.

  • Performs administrative tasks to support project maintenance as related to scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Complies with project requirements to support the collection and storage of electronic project files within the department.


  • 5-7 years of experience in designing transmission lines.

  • BS degree in civil/structural, electrical engineering, or related discipline (required).

  • PE Registration required.

  • Demonstrates and applies an understanding of fundamental engineering concepts (required).

  • Demonstrates and applies an understanding of basic electrical concepts (required).

  • Demonstrates the ability to review, understand, and apply industry standards and practices (required).

  • Experience and familiarity with the following standards preferred: NESC, GO-95, ANSI-O5.1, ASCE 48, ASCE 10, ACI-117, and ACI-318, EPRI Red Book, and OSHA.

  • Structural design, geotechnical design, utility design, and/or construction experience preferred.

  • Ability to produce sketches and drawings using AutoCAD or MicroStation and/or Bluebeam.

  • Experience and ability with MS-Office family of software is required.

  • Experience with the following software packages is required: PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, PLS-Caisson, MFAD, L-Pile, STAAD, Mathcad, and Vibrec.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Attend work as scheduled, for up to 8 hours at a time (which does not include a lunch break), 5 days a week, in PowerWright’s office or remote location.

  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned worked location.

  • Ability to work shifts beginning as an assigned, designated start time until an assigned, designated end time.

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner and as specified.

  • Ability to interact with employees and customers/clients in an appropriate manner.

  • Ability to manage and enhance current and future client relationships.

  • Ability to aid in all Transmission and Distribution business development efforts.

  • Exhibit and maintain the highest degree of professionalism in the performance of all related duties.

  • Ability to receive and understand directions from supervision and management.






This position may require travel to clients’ offices approximately 10-20% of the time.  The person in this position may be required to drive an automobile.  Travel may be necessary by automobile (as a driver or a passenger) or by airplane. 



This job operates in a professional office environment requiring routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, electronic devices such as tablets, printers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets as well as use of standard office applications and software.

When travelling applicant should expect to attend meetings on an active construction site from time to time.  Employees will adhere to all client and OSHA safety requirements and should be capable of rough terrain movement of up to 1-mile. Personal Protective Equipment in accordance with client requirements and Federal law must be worn at all times on site and a safety conscious demeanor is required.
