JOB SUMMARY:

The selected candidate will be responsible for the detailed Substation Physical and Protection & Control design for transmission and distribution voltage substation projects. These projects may require a minimal amount of site visits for data collection and verification.  This person will work out of both our North Palm Beach, FL corporate office and the client facility in Jupiter West.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Obtain and interpret panel AC and DC elementary drawings and transfer information to panel remotes and other drawings.

  • Obtain and interpret manufacturer’s drawings and use information obtained to do point to point wiring on client’s elementary, remotes, wiring and other drawings.

  • Obtain interpret and utilize information from client’s information database (AIM, AMP, PUR etc.) to verify, modify or analyze information received from engineers or from the field to carry out point to point wiring.

  • Obtain and interpret elementary drawings for client’s protection and control equipment and utilize information to verify or modify remotes, wiring or other related drawings.

  • Obtain and interpret information on panels, relay racks or other drawings and modify to relate to other panels, relay racks or other wiring diagrams.

  • Understand and utilize the concept of representing; additions, removals and modification of devices, circuits and equipment on client’s drawings.

  • Carry out other wiring activities related to but not limited to those mentioned above.

  • Develop designs that establish and maintain proper clearance requirements for High Voltage Equipment and the safe work practices as established by the NESC and OSHA.

  • Liaise with relevant engineers or specialists to verify client’s requirements.

  • Provide technical assistance and training to less experienced technician(s).

  •  Complete protection and control  design including development of complete engineering design package including one-line, three-line, DC and AC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, interconnection diagrams, communications, circuit schedules and client’s required project documentation

  • Complete physical electrical design including development of complete engineering design package including substation electrical plans, elevations, sections, conduit schedule, materials and client’s required project documentation.

  • Own and manage the technical aspects of each project from initial scope/assignment to project close out including construction support, as needed, and completion of As Built drawings.

  • Communicate constantly, professionally and openly with peers and clients to verify and understand client’s requirements for the successful completion of each project as well as strengthen the partnership with our clients.

  • Utilize scheduling tools to assist in the progression of projects.

  • Constantly add value to projects and our client’s business objectives.

  • Provide an exceptional internal and external customer service by providing exceptional response time and implement client/employee feedback.

 

OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend work as scheduled, for up to 8 hours at a time, 5 days a week, in PowerWright’s office.

  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned worked location.

  • Ability to work shifts beginning as an assigned, designated start time until an assigned, designated end time.

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner and as specified.

  • Ability to interact with employees and customers/clients in an appropriate manner.

  • Exhibit and maintain the highest degree of professionalism in the performance of all related duties.

  • Ability to receive and understand directions from supervision and management.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engineering I or II – 1-3 years of experience in a technical industry (utility industry experience a plus).

  • Familiar with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and symbols.

  • At least a 4 year engineering/technical degree. Substation/P&C field experience is a plus.

  • Utility and/or consulting engineering firm experience is a plus.

  • AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation or Bluebeam Revu experience is a plus.
