JOB SUMMARY:

The Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of assigned projects from initiation through closeout. This role provides full project management oversight—including scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and client coordination—without performing engineering or design work.

 

In addition to core project management responsibilities, this position provides functional oversight of the Drafting and Project Support teams, ensuring drafting resources are properly scheduled, trained, and aligned with project and client requirements.

 

The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for clients, leads internal multi-discipline teams, and ensures all project deliverables meet contractual, quality, and schedule expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Project Management Responsibilities

  • Set up and enter new projects for various clients using Smartsheet applications

  • Manage assigned projects from initiation through closeout using PowerWright’s internally developed Smartsheet project management applications

  • Serve as the primary project point of contact for clients, internal stakeholders, and external partners

  • Define, manage, and control project scope in alignment with contracts, client expectations, and internal work plans

  • Develop, maintain, and actively manage project schedules, including:

    • Critical path identification

    • Resource planning and forecasting

    • Proactive resolution of schedule risks

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, including:

    • Cost estimates and baseline budgeting 

    • Cost tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis 

    • Coordination with accounting and leadership on invoicing and financial performance

  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks related to scope, schedule, cost, staffing, and quality

  • Lead and facilitate project coordination meetings, including:

    • Client progress meetings

    • Internal execution meetings

    • Coordination with vendors, subcontractors, and construction teams

  • Manage change control, including scope changes, schedule impacts, and cost adjustments in accordance with contract requirements

  • Coordinate procurement activities, including vendor requests, proposal reviews, and submittal tracking (technical evaluations performed by engineering)

  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule, budget, and quality objectives

  • Prepare and deliver regular project status reports to clients and internal management

  • Support proposal development efforts, including schedules, level-of-effort inputs, and cost data

Drafting & Project Support Oversight Responsibilities

 

  • Provide functional oversight of the Drafting and Project Support Group, including:

    • Work prioritization and resource scheduling o Forecasting workload and responding to shifting project demands

  • Ensure drafting deliverables are completed in accordance with:

    • Client specifications

    • Project schedules

    • Company and client standards and procedures

  • Coordinate closely with drafters and project support staff to:

    • Communicate schedule changes

    • Receive status updates

    • Resolve delivery issues

  • Review drafting workload and negotiate realistic due dates with clients while maintaining a high level of customer service

  • Collaborate with internal teams on:

    • Project scheduling

    • Project updates

    • Invoicing support and forecasting

  • Identify process improvement opportunities within drafting and project support workflows

  • Ensure quality issues are addressed and corrective actions implemented when deliverables do not meet expectations

  • Support and contribute to training initiatives related to new processes, tools, or quality improvements

  • Provide recommendations regarding staffing needs, performance feedback, and professional development of drafting and support staff

  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in prioritizing work and resolving client or resource conflicts

 

Leadership, Collaboration & Communication

  • Provide day-to-day direction and mentorship to Senior Project Coordinators, Project Coordinators, and Drafting/Project Support staff as assigned

  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and proactively with clients to manage expectations and resolve concerns

  • Collaborate with engineering, drafting, construction, and business support teams across multiple geographic locations

  • Promote a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous improvement

  • Strengthen and maintain long-term client relationships to support repeat business and future opportunities

  • Deliver exceptional internal and external customer service through responsiveness, clarity, and follow-through​

OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend work as scheduled for a minimum of 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, in a remote work environment within the United States with high-speed internet

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance

  • Complete assigned tasks and projects in a timely, accurate, and organized manner

  • Interact professionally with employees, clients, and partners at all times

  • Exhibit the highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and accountability

  • Follow direction from supervision and senior management

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business objectives

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5–10 years of Project Management experience, preferably within utility, energy, infrastructure, construction, or engineering consulting environments

  • Demonstrated experience managing:

    • Project scope, schedule, and budget

    • Multi-discipline project teams

    • Client-facing deliverables

  • Previous Project Management experience supporting a Substation Engineering group preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field preferred but not required

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred

  • Proficiency with project management tools, with Smartsheet experience strongly preferred

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to lead teams and manage priorities in a fast-paced, remote environment

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functional oversight of Drafting and Project Support staff

  • May provide mentoring and task direction to Project Coordinators

  • No direct engineering or technical design supervision responsibilities

 

TRAVEL:

This position requires visiting client offices approximately 10-20% of the time. Travel may be conducted by automobile (as a driver or a passenger) or by commercial airline.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position operates in a professional remote work environment and requires a dedicated workspace with reliable high-speed internet. The role requires routine use of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and other electronic devices, as well as standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office) and internet-based systems.
