JOB SUMMARY:

This position oversees the Transmission Line and Distribution Line Engineering for PowerWright Technologies, Inc.  These projects are to include entire new facilities, as well as major additions, rehabilitation, replacement, clearance, and reconductoring of existing electric power lines. This position may be filled at a Supervisor or Manager level based upon the skill level of the candidate. The level of responsibilities will be commensurate with the level offered.

All items listed below are required for both levels (Supervisor or Manager) unless otherwise specified.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Transmission & Distribution Line Engineering Team Supervision
  • Work assignment

Project Engineering
  • Works on transmission & distribution line engineering projects

  • Resolves technical issues

  • Contacts client for technical clarifications

  • Provides technical leadership for entire group

  • Provides technical support to team members

  • Provides technical training to team members and others as needed

Business Development
  • Conduct all transmission line engineering related business development efforts

  • Source and secure new clients for T&D department (Manager only)

  • Represents company on potential client visits

  • Makes technical transmission & distribution related presentations and assist in Q&A sessions with potential clients

Detailed Compilation of Tasks/Duties
  • Plans, schedules, conducts and/or coordinates all phases of detailed engineering

  • Determines and documents project estimate, scope and schedule; evaluates design options and criteria

  • Perform and oversee detailed engineering calculations for the design of steel, concrete, and wood supporting structures and their associated foundations

  • Perform and oversee cable sag and miscellaneous calculations to support creation of construction bid packages

  • Assure the development of designs and specifications are in compliance with industry and client specific standards

  • Works with client and/or construction contractors to develop and incorporate best design practices (Manager Only)

  • Proofs in-house engineering projects. Attention to details required

  • Manages project e-files for projects within the department

  • Troubleshoot urgent issues and respond calmly and professionally in high stress situations

  • Assist upper management in establishing technical direction and philosophy for the department

  • Act as the single point of contact within the company for all technical issues relating to transmission and/or distribution line design/engineering (Supervisor position will assist upper management with this task)

  • Provides thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, and calculations

  • Continually improves job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.

  • Periodically conducts field visits to collect data

  • Conduct team member performance reviews and evaluations

  • Assist in business development efforts in the area of transmission & distribution business under the guidance of upper management

 

OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend work as scheduled, for up to 8 hours at a time (which does not include a lunch break), 5 days a week, in PowerWright’s office

  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned worked location

  • Ability to work shifts beginning as an assigned, designated start time until an assigned, designated end time

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner and as specified

  • Ability to interact with employees and customers/clients in an appropriate manner

  • Exhibit and maintain the highest degree of professionalism in the performance of all related duties

  • Ability to receive and understand directions from supervision and management

 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree in civil/structural or electrical engineering. Graduate degree preferred

  • State Registration as a Professional Engineer is required

  • At least 10 years (5 years for Supervisor position) of professional experience in transmission line engineering, especially in the production and development of packages for construction in the transmission and distribution electric utility systems.  Experience in both transmission and distribution line design preferred

  • Manager: 3-5 (or more) years of supervisory/management experience is required. Supervisor: 1-2 years of supervisory and/or team lead experience is required

  • Structural design and/or geotechnical experience is a plus

  • PLS CADD and PLS-Pole experience required. PLS-Tower and PLS-Caisson experience is a plus

  • Experience with foundation design software such as MFAD or LPile is required

  • Experience in the electric utility industry required

  • Demonstrable skills and experience in project management

  • Attention to detail

  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Skilled in MS Suite of products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Above average proficiency in Excel preferred

  • Ability to work independently and think analytically

  • Strong team skills with the ability to be flexible

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position supervises the Transmission & Distribution Line Engineering Group.

This position reports to the President or his designee.

 

TRAVEL:  This position requires minimal travel.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This job operates in a professional office environment requiring routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, electronic devices such as tablets, printers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets as well as use of standard office applications such as MS Office, and internet based filing system.
