The successful candidate will produce, draft, and design drawings to conform to project and work scope requirements for Transmission Line projects and as required will support the development of drawings for substation deliverables.  This position will require the ability to develop drawings and deliverables using materials and direction from various sources (i.e. Client Standards, *.tif/*.png files, Emails, PDF or AutoCAD sketches, blocks, and/or dxf exports from Power Line Systems (PLS) family of software).

The individual should be capable of performing the work within AutoCAD to conform to client standards in a collaborative and paperless environment with multiple remote work groups. This position requires expert level knowledge of AutoCAD and experience with coordinate systems and annotative scaling.  Individual must be capable of communicating and receiving direction over Microsoft Teams. This position requires an understanding of engineering drawing requirements for electrical transmission line & substation projects.


  • Drafts/develops various types of scaled drawings related to the design of electrical grid transmission projects (P&P, framing, load trees, hardware, permit drawings, crossing drawings, guying details, foundations, and other drawings related to electrical grid projects).

  • Develops and maintains reusable drawing templates and AutoCAD blocks applicable to scaled drawings.

  • Assists in the development of project and drawing notes or bill of material to support project completion.

  • Prepares and organizes work assignments received from the Transmission Line Engineers to ensure proper management and completion.

  • Tracks and proactively manages various assigned projects to meet stated deadlines.

  • Creates/produces a standard set of drawings from work assignments.

  • Checks and proofs own work to minimize errors, ensuring a quality product that meets company and client’s needs.

  • Files and maintains organized projects in accordance with company internal procedures.

  • Assist in preparing the plans for submittal to the client.

  • Adheres to office workflow procedures to ensure maximum efficiency.


  • Attend work as scheduled, for up to 8 hours at a time (which does not include a lunch break), 5 days a week, in PowerWright’s office or remote location.

  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned worked location.

  • Ability to work shifts beginning as an assigned, designated start time until an assigned, designated end time.

  • Ability to complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner and as specified.

  • Ability to interact with employees and customers/clients in an appropriate manner.

  • Ability to manage and enhance current and future client relationships.

  • Ability to aid in all Transmission and Distribution business development efforts.

  • Exhibit and maintain the highest degree of professionalism in the performance of all related duties.

  • Ability to receive and understand directions from supervision and management.


  • Associate Degree or Vocational certificate or degree in drafting or related technical discipline.

  • Five (5) years of drafting experience. Experience using AutoCAD required; MicroStation ability is a plus.

  • Three (3) years of experience supporting transmission line projects required; Substation or P&C experience a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail, meeting deadlines and delivering a quality work product are required.

  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.

  • Ability to work in detail oriented environment requiring analytical thinking for work development and self-correction.

  • Reliable with an ability to work independently.

  • Strong team skills with the ability to be flexible.


This position reports to the Drafting Supervisor.



This position requires minimal travel.



This job operates in a professional office environment requiring routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, electronic devices such as tablets, printers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets as well as use of standard office applications such as MS Office, and internet based filing system.
